Selectmen Meeting Minutes — April 28, 2010—4:00 p.m. — Memorial Hall.

Call to order: John called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. Other members present: Joe Judd and Robert Manners.

Media Present: Cameron Graves, Shelburne Falls Independent

Appointments:

4:00 p.m. Chris King RE: Continuation of Liquor License Hearing for Mocha Maya's Coffee, Co. -- with the full Board present, Chris explained that the coffee shop is owned and operated by himself and his brother Bruce. Chris oversees the coffee portion of the business and his brother Bruce who has years of experience in the restaurant business, will oversee alcohol sales. Mocha Maya's hosts over 150 venues annually and in its' five years of existence, the business has grown in ways the two never expected. The two would like to create a classy and upscale atmosphere; serving alcohol during evening hours when performers are in the house. They have no desire to create a "bar" atmosphere. Members of the Board asked several questions. They touched upon several aspects of alcohol management (under-age drinking; well trained staff; and dealing with difficult situations). There were no comments from the public. John closed the hearing at 4:30 p.m. Bob made a motion to approve the application for an All Alcoholic Beverage license. Joe seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Other Business:
Elimination of One Municipal parking Space -- Discussion continued regarding the elimination of one municipal parking space adjacent to Memorial Hall. Joe believes that having two reserved spots for municipal vehicles is a luxury given the limited number of parking spaces in the business district. Bob on the other hand, does not share Joe's point of view. He feels that two spots are a necessity and a matter of public safety. After listening to both sides, John asked that the Board table the decision until their next meeting in early May so to allow him the opportunity to view the situation.
Assignment of Annual Town Meeting Articles - In preparation for annual town meeting, members of the Board reviewed the warrant one last time and took assignment of specific articles.

Adjournment: Bob motioned to adjourn the meeting at 5:05 p.m. Joe seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Respectfully submitted,

Terry Mosher
Executive Secretary
